This project is an interesting example of a school district making the most of its resources, both physically and financially. When the state demanded seismic upgrades to Gompers Continuation High School, as well as to charter school, LPS (Leadership Public School) West Contra Costa Unified School District decided to build both schools on the same campus. Located in the “Iron Triangle” area of Richmond, the architect describes the design as a “geode”, the idea being a” hard exterior that opens up to light and space on the inside.” (HMC Architects)
